Cookie Policy
The cookies and browser storage PostDepo uses and why, the Google Analytics cookies we set only with your consent, and how to change it.
1. What this policy covers
This policy explains what PostDepo keeps in your browser when you use our website and the app, why, and how you can choose what to allow.
Cookies are small files a website asks your browser to keep. Local storage and session storage do the same job without being sent with every request. We use all three, and this policy treats them alike.
2. Necessary: always on
These are needed for the site to work or to do what you asked, so they need no consent. None of them is used to follow you:
- Your session: once you sign in, kept in local storage until you sign out.
- A sign-in link on its way: the address it was sent to and that you accepted the Terms, kept in local storage until the link is used.
- Your choices: the theme you picked while signed out (local storage), and the language you picked for this visit and that you closed the Beta notice (session storage, gone when the tab closes).
- An archive upload in progress: how far it got, kept in that tab's session storage so an interrupted upload can resume.
- AI writing in progress: which finished drafts that tab has already told you about, kept in its session storage so that it does not tell you twice.
- Your cookie choice: what you chose in the cookie banner and for which version of this policy, kept in local storage so that we do not ask again.
- Security: our hosting or network provider may set a strictly necessary cookie to protect the service from attacks and automated traffic.
3. Our own statistics, without a cookie
We count page views and errors ourselves, in our own database in the European Union: the page, the type of device, operating system and browser, an identifier for the browser tab that is kept in its session storage and disappears when the tab closes, and your IP address with its last part removed. None of it is shared with anyone, and no cookie is set.
We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service working and understanding how it is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These records are kept for 30 days by default and never more than 400 days.
4. Analytics: only with your consent
If you allow analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use PostDepo. Until you allow it, it is not loaded at all.
- Cookies: _ga and one whose name starts with _ga_, set on our domain and kept for up to 2 years. They hold a random identifier for your browser.
- Provider: Google Ireland Limited, which processes this data on our behalf under Google's data processing terms.
- What is collected: the pages you visit on our site, without anything after the ? in their address; your type of device and browser; an approximate location derived from your connection; and how you arrived. We never send Google your name, your email address or your account.
- Google may process this data outside the European Economic Area, relying on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
We use no advertising cookies and no other third-party tracking.
5. Your choice, and changing it
On your first visit the cookie banner asks. Analytics stays off unless you allow it, and refusing is as easy as accepting. You can change your mind at any time:
- Cookie settings, at the bottom of every page of our website.
- Cookie preferences, in the account menu once you are signed in. Your choice is then saved to your account and applies on every device you sign in on.
- Your browser's settings, which can delete cookies and site data at any time.
Withdrawing consent stops Google Analytics at once and deletes its cookies from that browser. It does not affect what was collected before.
6. Changes to this policy
If we add a cookie that needs consent, or change what one is used for, we publish a new version here and the cookie banner asks you again.
